Higher secondary admissions begin at Guahati Commerce College

There has been an increase of one per cent and four per cent for students of the state board and other boards, respectively in the cutoff marks this year, according to college authorities.

GUWAHATI: Higher secondary admissions in Guahati Commerce College began on Saturday with an all-time high cutoff rate of 71 per cent for students of the state board and 85.5 per cent for students of other boards in the general category.
There has been an increase of one per cent and four per cent for students of the state board and other boards, respectively in the cutoff marks this year, according to college authorities.

The cutoff for scheduled caste (SC) category students has been fixed at 60 per cent for those from the state board and 76 per cent for those from other boards. Similarly, the cutoff marks for scheduled tribe (hills) students is 51.66 per cent for the state board and 70.3 per cent for other boards.
The cutoff for students belonging to scheduled tribe (plains) is 48.63 per cent and for other boards it is 66.5 per cent. The cut-off for the students belonging to other backward classes is 62.35 per cent and for the students of other boards it is 77.9 per cent.
The college has received around 1,500 applications for only 450 seats, college authorities said.
College vice-principal Plabon Gohain said, "Since morning, there has been a huge rush of students seeking admissions. However, only those meeting the cutoff criteria were admitted."
He added that this year the college received more applications as compared to last year. Last year, there were only 900 applications.
